Porsche Supercup Hungaroring - qualifying

  • Sven Müller removing headgear

The Porsche Supercup crews are in Hungary this weekend for the fifth round of this year’s championship and for one very ‘hot’ race since the temperatures all weekend are extremely high and often around the 40 degrees mark. The biggest problem with such high temperatures is that the tyres wear out. Furthermore, the temperature in the car that the drivers experience can be as high as 60 degrees in the cockpit!

However, one thing that remains unaffected by the heat is the enthusiasm and the excitement. Indeed, today turned out to be a very  interesting qualifying session at Hungaroring. After the best time of Phillip Eng in yesterday’s practice session there was a surprise pole position achieved by Sven Muller on today’s qualifying. His time was 1:49.245 minutes which is quite fast regarding the conditions.

Christian Engelhardt was second with a very close time and Michael Ammermuller was third. As always, the qualifying times are very close and this time 16 drivers were within the 1:49 minutes mark which shows just how tight qualifying is and how equally capable the cars and the drivers of the Supercup championship are. The overall standings leader, Phillip Eng was sixth.
