Renault Sport Trophy: Capitanio and Pizzitola won Sprint races at Nürburgring

Dario Capitanio (Oregon Team) and Andrea Pizzitola (ART Junior Team) are the winners of two Renault Sport Trophy Sprint races at Nürburgring today.  Capitanio won Sprint race for Prestige drivers, while Pizzitola won Sprint race for Elite drivers.


Capitanio achieved his first Prestige race victory in dominating style, having started from pole position and leading the race from start to finish. His team-mate Niccolo Nalio achieved second place on podiums, ahead V8 Racing’s Max Braams.


Richard Gonda (ART Junior Team), who started from 2nd position, spun in Turn 1 and fell to 8th place, but later he succeeded in returning to 4th place.  Safety Car was deployed in Lap 8 after Philippe Bourgois (Zele Racing) was stuck in the gravel. After the restart drivers had only one more lap and positions remained unchanged. At places from 5th to 10th finishers were Diederik Sijthoff (V8 Racing), Toni Forne (ART Junior Team), Andres Mendez (Zele Racing), Oliver Freymuth (V8 Racing), Adalberto Baptista (Oregon Team) and Antonio Coimbra (Equipe Verschuur).




In Elite race Andrea Pizzitola scored his first victory after polesitter and previous leader Roy Geerts (V8 Racing) pitted and retired in Lap 6 because of technical issues. Pizzitola remained in the lead until last lap, ahead Steijn Schothorst (Equipe Verschuur).


David Fumanelli (OregonTeam) was third when Geerts retired, but he lost podium place in Lap 8 in battle against Indy Dontje (ART Junior Team). Luciano Bacheta (Oregon Team) finished fifth, Nicky Pastorelli (V8 Racing) was sixth and Alan Hellmeister (Oregon Team) was seventh.


Guest driver Michela Cerruti started from last place and finished 8th. Top 10 were rounded by Miguel Ramos (Equipe Verschuur) and Vittorio Ghirelli (Zele Racing).
