Renault Sport Trophy: Monlau Competicion wins endurance race

Spanish team Monlau Competicion wins Endurance race of Renault Sport Trophy today at Hungaroring. Drivers for winning team were Wolfgang Reip and David Cebrian. Although they drove first time together in Renault Sport R.S. 01 German-Spanish duo succeded to win after 40 laps at famous Grand Prix circuit in Hungary. Their gap in front of second placed #8 car of Oregon Team was just 0.343 seconds.

Oregon Team’s duo David Fumanelli and Dario Capitanio, winners of first endurance race few weeks ago at Spa, captured second position 3 laps before the end of the race, ahead of ART Junior Team’s pair Andrea Pizzitola and Richard Gonda.

Thirteen cars started the race, with Elite drivers behind the wheels. Pole-sitter Steijn Schothorst (Equipe Verschuur) lost two positions after the start and dropped behind Pizzitola and Reip. Frenchman Pizzitola was leading 15 laps and than Steijn Schothorst retook the lead. At the half of the 70-minutes race pits are opened and drivers were changed.

Steijn’s father Jeroen Schothorst took over car #10 and after few laps he dropped to fifth. He was just to slow for younger drivers, so Cebrian, Capitanio and Gonda seized podium positions. Fourth was Niccolo Nalio in #6 car of Oregon Team. There was constant fighting between drivers from 2nd to 4th, with few contacts and overtaking manouvres. At the end Cebrian, Capitanio and Gonda secured podium. Ten cars finished the race.
