Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg was the fastest in the first Free practice before the United States Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas.

On a wet track with high wind, drivers had to be very careful and understandably they went very easy. After 30 minutes, only 13 drivers recorded lap time and Nico Rosberg was on top with 1:55.102, followed by Daniel Ricciardo and Lewis Hamilton.

When weather conditions became slightly better, drivers slowly started to record better lap times, but once again Rosberg was the one to beat. The Mercedes driver recorded a lap time of 1:53.989, more than a second faster than Red Bull drivers Daniil Kvyat and Daniel Ricciardo.

During the last half hour, almost nothing interesting happened as most of the drivers stayed in the garage, so Rosberg maintained his first place ahead of Red Bulls, Carlos Sainz in Toro Rosso and championship leader Lewis Hamilton.
