The rumours were confirmed today: the nine-time world rally champion Sebastien Loeb has signed a two-year contract with Hyundai Motorsport and will participate in six events of the 2019 FIA World Rally Championship season, together with his longtime navigator Daniel Elena.

Loeb will share the third Hyundai i20 WRC with Dani Sordo while Thierry Neuville and Andreas Mikkelsen will have full-time programmes with the Korean manufacturer. Loeb’s programme will begin with the season-opening Rallye Monte-Carlo (January 24 – 27) and then he will drive Hyundai i20 at Rally Sweden. Sordo’s first event in 2019 would be Rally Mexico in March.

“Winning at Rally de Espana this season reignited my desire to continue competing at the very front of WRC. Joining Hyundai will give us a fresh challenge and one that I can’t wait to tackle,” said Sebastien Loeb.

“Sealing a deal with someone of his immense talent and calibre shows that we are an attractive and competitive proposition in the FIA World Rally Championship. Ultimately, our goal is to win the WRC title. We believe we have the package to achieve that, and our composition of crews for 2019 will perfectly reflect that ambition,” said Hyundai team principal Michel Nandan.
