Spa 24h: Six Mercedes crews stripped off qualifying results

The celebration of fantastic results of Mercedes crews in the qualifying for the 24 hours of Spa, with six cars in front of the grid, converts to the shocking penalization which put of all cars back on the grid. The Stewards of the Meeting penalized three HTP Motorsport’s crews, two Black Falcon’s crews and one Auto Sport Promotion crew for the breach of the regulations. The irregularity is found in Mercedes cars in which the “ignition timing does not comply with the homologation file”.

Except losing Superpole times and their positions on the grid, Mercedes entries have been handed a five-minute stop-go penalties to be taken during the race. The penalized crews are #00 Black Falcon, #56 Black Falcon, #84 HTP Motorsport, #85 HTP Motorsport, #86 HTP Motorport and #88 Akka-ASP.

The stewards’ decision puts Laurens Vanthoor in the #28 WRT Audi R8 LMS on the pole position.
