Team Russia by Barwell impressive at free practices
Team Russia by Barwell Racing with Demon Tweeks set the pace at British GT season opening free practices at Oulton Park circuit.
Jon Minshaw and his co-driver Phil Keen were consistant throughout whole session which was red flagged 12 minutes before its end after James Harrison’s Academy Motorsport Aston Martin Vantage GT4 went off at Island. While the damage to the barriers precluded any further running, Harrison emerged unharmed.
The chasing pack was headed by the Triple Eight BMW of Joe Osborne, who made much of the early running, and the impressive Lewis Plato aboard RAM Racing’s Mercedes SLS AMG GT3. Both team and driver are making their British GT debuts this weekend.
Oman Racing Team’s Rory Butcher was the first Aston Martin driver along in fourth, while early pace-setter Alexander Sims made it three BMWs inside the top five.
In GT4 class Bradley Ellis’ late lap (1:44.196) was enough to give Twisted Team Parker’s Ginetta G55 top spot. His best effort, set just before the session was red flagged, bumped down the warring duo of Luke Davenport and Gavan Kershaw whose Tolman Motorsport Ginetta and ISSY Racing Lotus Evora GT4 had initially traded fastest times.
