The race in Marrakech will go on
Despite concerns about the unstable political situation, the World Touring Car Championship race in Marrakech this month will go on as planned. Earlier this week, the supporting Auto GP series cancelled its races in Moroccan city and moved the start of the season to Hungaroring in May.
However, the WTCC has no fears about being present in Marrakech for the April 18-19 weekend and has plans to race as scheduled. The series’ boss Francois Ribeiro declined to comment on the decision of Auto GP to withdraw.
“We have worked with the AutoGP organisers as a WTCC support race since 2010 but we are not in a position to make a comment on a matter that’s not legally or commercially settled,” Ribeiro said.
The race in Marrakech will be the second in the 2015 WTCC season. The season began in Argentina with the victories of Citroen drivers— reigning champion Jose Maria Lopez and Sebastian Loeb.
