V8 Supercars Townsville 400 Sprint – day 3

After the second day of Townsville 400 event, Ford was dominating with Mark Winterbottom and his fantastic driving on first race of the weekend. However, Sunday was reserved for another round of qualifying, Top 10 Shoutout and another 70 laps 1,5 hour race.

Race 17

The early morning Sunday’s qualifying session was again Ford dominated when Pepsi Max Crew Team duo of Winterbottom and Mostert scored two first places for afternoons race. This season, Ford Falcon proved that it was better choice for short, sprint type tracks and this was that case. Almost every sprint event of the season had at least one Ford on the podium.

Race 17

After the qualifying session come the Top 10 Shotout a 1 lap track outing just for show where drivers have one lap to score best time. The fastest driver was Scott McLaughin who had very fast time of 1:13.4117. There are no points awarded for shotout but fastest driver gets cash reward. Chaz Mostert was second proving that he is very fast and perspective driver.

Race 17

However, when the main race came things got serious and after great start there was fierce battle between drivers. Mark Winterbottom who started first fought his way to the checkered flag after an hour and a half of great driving. Second was James Courtney in Holden and third was David Raynolds in another Ford who was very good all weekend. Interestingly, 2014 V8 Supercars champion, Jamie Whincup after not so good season so far finished on fifth place which is one of his best results this season.
