After four years absence Volvo is returning to FIA World Touring Car Championship in season 2016. Volvo will participate in WTCC through its Polestar performance brand’s motorsport partner Cyan Racing, with a newly developed S60 Polestar TC1 car. Last time we saw Volvo in full-season WTCC campaign was in 2011, with Robert Dahlgren at the wheel of Volvo C30 and Volvo C30 eDrive. In 2013 Thed Björk made a one-off appearance with C30 eDrive at Chinese round and since then, Swedish brand disappeared from WTCC. Now, they have signed a multi-year agreement with a plan to attack world title with two-cars team.

Volvo showed the new car, which is still in testing phase. Polestar Cyan Racing will spend the remainder of 2015 testing and developing the car. Details of the driver line-up will be announced later, we can asume that they will hire Swedish drivers, as always. Volvo took three consecutive titles in Scandinavian Touring Car Championship from 2013 to 2015 and Thed Björk became a triple champion, so it seems that he will the best option for one seat in WTCC car.
