World RX: Hansen on top after Day 1 at Loheac RX
Timmy Hansen continued with victorious pace from Hell RX and won both qualifying heats today at Loheac RX, ninth round of World Rallycross Championship. French driver in French car (Peugeot 208 WRX) was dominant on famous French rallycross circuit and took the both wins ahead reigning world champion Petter Solberg (SDRX, Citroen DS3). In Heat 1 Hansen was faster just 0.097 seconds, while in Heat 2 they were in the same race and Hansen won by 0.396 seconds.
DTM star and EKS RX chief Mattias Ekstrom, who was driving Audi S1, was third overall after two heats (fourth in Heat 1 and third in Heat 2), ahead another Swedish driver Johan Kristoffersson (Volkswagen Team Sweden) in VW Polo. Andreas Bakkerud (Ford Olsbergs) and Davy Jeannes (Team Peugeot-Hansen) are sharing fifth place.
Top 12 drivers (of 35 in competition) will go further after four qualifying heats. Positions from 7 to 12 are kept by Manfred Stohl, Jean-Baptiste Dubourg, Anton Marklund, Gaetan Serazin, Reinis Nitiss and Tord Linnerud. First under the line are some regular World RX competitors as Toomas Heikkinen, Liam Doran, Per-Gunnar Andersson and Robin Larsson, but gaps are small and nobody aren’t secured for semifinal.
Multiple WTCC champion Yvan Muller, guest driver in Albatec Racing Peugeot 208, was 22nd after two heats. He was very good at 8th in Heat 1, but only 32nd in Heat 2. Former WRC star Guy Wilks didn’t start any of two heats with JRM Racing Mini RX because of technical issues.
