The FIA Touring Cars Commission submitted a slightly changed calendar for the 2016 World Touring Cars Championship season. Provisional list of events was confirmed in December, while the amended WTCC schedule for 2016 will now be submitted for the FIA World Motor Sport Council approval.

WTCC 2016 to commence with the Race of France

By scheduling the WTCC Race of Russia in June, the WTCC Race of France will become the championship’s new curtain raiser with Circuit Paul Ricard hosting the action from 1-3 April. The minor calendar adjustment will ensure the WTCC Race of Portugal in Vila Real retains it’s status as the final event of the European season prior to the summer break.
Two events which are still missing a signature of promoter agreement are FIA WTCC Race of Thailand and FIA WTCC Race of Argentina. There will be two street races in 2016, in Marrakech and Vila Real, while Qatar will host the only night race of the season.
