  • Gabriele Tarquini Honda WTCC

Friday’s testing session before the WTCC race at the Paul Ricard circuit was very successful for Honda as Gabriele Tarquini set the fastest lap time.

The experienced Italia, who was behind the wheel of a Honda Civic WTCC, finished at the top with a racing time of 1:30.227, just 0.112 seconds better than Ma Qing Hua in Citroen C-Elysee WTCC.

Chasing them was for the third slot was another Honda driver Tiago Monteiro. After a disappointing round in Slovakia last weekend, Honda announced that it could have better results in France.

Reigning champion Jose Maria Lopez in Citroen could manage a fourth slot, while Rob Huff at fifth was the best placed Lada Vesta driver. One of the home crowd’s favorites— Sebastien Loeb was sixth, Nicky Catsburg finished seventh proving he has quickly adapted to the WTCC, while Norbert Michelisz on eight position was the best placed Yokohama Drivers’ Trophy driver, in front of Mehdi Bennani and Hugo Valente.

This session was a bit disappointing for title contender Yvan Muller as he had the 12th best result, but a much better performance is expected from the former champion in Saturday’s qualifying rounds.

The start of the qualifications is scheduled for Saturday 15.00 CET, while the races are on Sunday. The first race will start at 12.45 CET and the second is scheduled for 14.00 CET.
