Citroen has an ambition to stay present in WTCC launching five cars in 2017 season.

Citroen’s already announced retirement from the series after 2016 season, French manufacturer still can be represented in the World Touring Car Championship through Sebastien Loeb Racing team. Next year, Citroen factory team will be represented in the WTCC with only two cars, while Sebastien Loeb Racing will expand to three C-Elysees.

Citroen still has future in WTCC

But, that is just first step of the plan. Citroen boss Yves Matton said that Sebastien Loeb Racing can take over the factory team in 2017 with five cars on the grid.

;

“Everything is still opened, 2016 is just first part of our reconstructure. After the first half of the next championship we will see how things are working and that will be good time for talks with Loeb about future. I think everybody has an interest to keep Citroen present in the WTCC,” suggests Matton.

Earlier this month, Citroen factory team axed Sebastien Loeb and Ma Qing Hua from their drivers line-up for 2016, keeping double champion Jose Maria Lopez and Yvan Muller, while Sebastien Loeb Racing brought Gregoire Demoustier and retaned services of Mehdi Bennani. Name of third driver should be announced after New Year.
