Jorge Lorenzo was forced to withdraw from the Race of Champions due to injury caused during Moto GP title celebration in front of his home fans in Mallorca last week.

Spaniard suffered second degree burns on his left leg when a lose radiator pipe of his motorcycle started to spray boiling fluid.

“I am really sad that I can’t go to the Race of Champions. I really hoped it would heal quickly, but due to potential complications, the doctors have forbidden me to do it. Now I will try as hard as possible to be back next year instead,” said Lorenzo.

Sir Chris Hoy

Sir Chris Hoy, six-time Olympic gold medalist in cycling, and European Le Mans Series LMP3 champion, will replace Lorenzo in the event at former Olympic stadium in London. He will join Romain Grosjean in ‘Team All Stars’ for the Nations Cup.

“I am sorry to hear about Jorge’s injury, but this is wonderful opportunity and I am looking forward to it. I am really happy to get late call-up and I hope to be very fast, not like real proffesionals, but I will do my very best,” commented Hoy.
