New chapter in Mercedes - ART partnership
In the 2015 DTM season, Mercedes follow the example of their rivals Audi and BMW. Just like the Bavarian manufacturers, the Stuttgarters also will contest the battle for the 2015 title with eight vehicles. The latest asset to the Mercedes-Benz camp is the French ART Grand Prix squad around Team Principal Frederic Vasseur.
This Swabian-French connection is anything but new – it’s just the next chapter in a long term partnership powered by Mercedes engines. In their Formula 3 Euro series years, ART Grand Prix secured seven team titles and six drivers’ championships. Among the title winners also were, in addition to the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Romain Grosjean and Nico Hulkenberg, drivers such as Paul Di Resta and Jamie Green who are today well known names in the DTM.
Therefore, the new project represents a consequent step from being a talent pool to competing with an own team in touring cars racing at the highest level.
The ART Grand Prix driver line-up for the following season promises to make particular excitement. Former champion and experienced ace Gary Paffett will be teamed with Austria’s DTM rookie Lucas Auer who had several successes in the 2014 Formula 3 European Championship and now will make his debut on the grid of the probably most popular international touring cars series.
ART Grand Prix combines experience on the one hand with juvenile energy on the other. This mix definitely should have what it takes to put a decent amount of pressure on the established teams.
