New hot prospect in the WTCC

The next station of the World Touring Car Championship is Slovakia and home crowd unexpectedly get a chance to cheer for local guy.

From 19th to 21st of June WTCC continues at the Slovakia Ring in rounds 11 and 12. There will be one new face as talented 20-year-old Mato Homola get a chance to test himself behind the wheel of Campos Racing Chevrolet RML Cruze TC1. Homola will join fellow young guns John Filippi, 20, and Hugo Valente, 22, in the Spanish team.

That will be a busy weekend for the Slovakian driver as he will compete not only in both WTCC races, but also in the European Touring Car Championship. Homola in the ETCC drives SEAT Leon Cup Racer for the Homola Motorsport and scored five points after two opening rounds of the series. Last year he finished as a runner-up in ETCC TC2T category.

“This is a big chance for me. It’s not very often when you get a chance to race in a World championship events but when it’s in your country it makes it even more special. Of course I want achieve a strong result, but also I need to be realistic. I need to learn a more powerful and technically advanced car against a very strong field of international drivers. But while I don’t ahve experience of TC1 competition, at least I can count on the support of the home fans at the track I know very well and like very much,” enthusiastically noted Homola.

TC1 cars are not completely unknown to the young Slovakian as he had few test with Campos Racing in Barcelona last year when he confirmed his potential.
