Opel revealed new Astra for 2016 TCR International Series

Opel Motorsport has revealed the new Astra TCR, prepared for TCR International series and other TCR competitions. The new racing machine, based on the new generation Astra and developed under TCR regulations (2.0 engine, 330 hp), was on the show at the TCR Benelux launching event at Mettet in Belgium.

The Partner of Opel Motorsport in developing the new car was Kissling Motorsport, a renown team which currently runs few cars in the Opel Astra OPC Cup. The new Astra TCR will replace the older generation Astra TCR which is being raced by Campos Racing in this year’s TCR International Series. Which teams will use Astra, against bunch of TCR cars like VW Golf, Seat Leon, Honda Civic, Subaru Impreza and others,  will be announced at the beginning of 2016, when the first contingent of ten cars will be available for sale. The price is 95.000 Euros (plus VAT).

“This is a prototype that we will use in the next days for the final aerodynamics tests. The following step will be the track testing, probably in Southern Europe in order to find favourable weather conditions. Our aim is to complete the technical development as soon as possible and be able to make the first contingent of ten cars available for sale by the mid of February. The plan is to have another twenty cars ready by the end of May,” said Opel Motorsport Director Jörg Schrott.
