Wehrlein can continue in DTM

Toto Wolff, the Executive Director of Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team, said Pascal Wehrlein could stay in DTM for another season.

Wehrlein won his first title last weekend, becoming the youngest ever DTM champion, but his ambition is to become a Formula 1 driver. Obviously, he must wait to get a chance in Mercedes as Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg are inviolable, but for a talented German, there is a possibility to get a chance in Manor F1 Team.

Wolff suggested that Mercedes’ arrangement with Manor about engine supplying doesn’t mean that Wehrlein will go the same way.

“The link between Mercdes and Manor means nothing in terms of Wehrlein’s future F1 career. It is far from certain that Pascal will go there. If Manor asks too much, it will not work out even they now have a valuable place to sell with a Mercedes engine and Wlliams’ technology. We can decide to leave him in DTM for another year or if third cars come into F1, Pascal has another chance,” said Wolff.
