Nyck de Vries is a Dutch racing driver who most recently has won FIA Formula 2 Championship in 2019. Parallel to his F2 commitments, De Vries is a member of Mercedes factory team in the FIA Formula E Championship and Racing Team Nederland in the FIA World Endurance Championship.

Earlier in his open-wheel racing career, that started in 2012, De Vries was a champion in the Formula Renault Eurocup in 2014 and third in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series in 2015.

World karting champion for two years in a row

Born in February 1995 in Sneek, Nyck de Vries developed a successful career in karting competitions as a teenager, winning many championship titles in national and international championships.

He reached the peak in 2010 when he was the winner of the CIK-FIA World Karting Championship. He repeated the same in 2011, proving that he's ready to step up to bigger single-seaters. In the same time, he became a member of the McLaren young driver programme.

Three seasons in Formula Renault Eurocup, champion in 2014

In 2012, Nyck made a debut in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup, driving for R-Ace GP team. Scoring two podiums, he finished fifth in the points. His first win came in the Formula Renault North European Cup, in which he didn't participate for the full season so he finished tenth in the points. In 2013, he had a double programme with Koiranen GP team, participating in the Formula Renault Eurocup (2 wins, 5th) and Formula Renault Alps (2 podiums, 8th).

In 2014, De Vries stayed with Koiranen GP and triumphed in both competitions, winning the FR Eurocup with five victories in fourteen races and FR Alps series with nine wins in fourteen races.

In 2015, Nyck made step up to the Formula Renault 3.5 Series, driving for DAMS and finishing third in the final standings, behind Oliver Rowland and Matthieu Vaxiviere. Nyck's only victory was in the season-closing race at Jerez.

The next chapter in Nyck's career was the GP3 Series in 2016 with ART Grand Prix team. He was a race winner two times, at Monza and Abu Dhabi, finishing sixth in the points.

Formula 2 champion in the third season

In 2017, Nyck de Vries entered the inaugural season of the FIA Formula 2 Championship (formerly GP2 Series), driving for Italian team Rapax and later switching to Spanish team Racing Engineering. The highlight of the season was his victory in the Sprint Race at Monza and he finished seventh in the points. For the 2018 F2 season, he moved to Prema Theodore Racing. He won Sprint Race at Circuit Paul Ricard and then two Feature Races at Hungaroring and Spa, finishing fourth in the points.

In 2019, Nyck rejoined ART Grand Prix for his third season in Formula 2 and he won championship title even before the final round, securing enough points for the celebration with three races to go. He was the race winner four times over the season.

Nyck tried endurance racing, joined Mercedes in Formula E

Parallel to his Formula 2 commitments, Nyck joined Racing Team Nederland from the third round of the 2018-2019 FIA World Endurance Championship. He was sharing the #29 Dallara LMP2 prototype with Giedo van der Garde and Frits van Eerd, participating in six races. He scored no wins or podiums, finishing ninth in the LMP2 Drivers' standings. In his debut at 24 Hours of Le Mans in June 2019, De Vries was 15th in the LMP2 class.

In summer 2019, it was announced that Nyck will drive for Mercedes in manufacturer's first season in FIA Formula E Championship, starting from November.
