2015 Food City 500 Qualifying

After one calm practice session and one plagued by several spins and crashes, the qualifying session began at 4:45ET under ideal conditions with Paul Menard taking the early lead with 15.068s. Behind him was Matt DiBenedetto. Early on, Greg Biffle spun, causing a red flag. Fortunately, his car missed the wall, so he could continue his run. Brad Keselowski reached the top of the list and was followed by Austin Dillon and Kevin Harvick. Kenseth went to No. 2 after doing 14.928s, but Keselowski’s 14.926s run pushed him to third and he was himself pushed by David Ragan who did 14.918s. Doing his first lap, Joey Logano reached first with 14.841. Jimmie Johnson had problems controlling his car and unfortunately didn’t advance to the second round of qualifying.

After a 7 minute break, the qualifying resumed with a 10 minute session. Brad Keselowski got the early lead with 15.006s followed by Carl Edwards who did 15.026s. However, Matt Kenseth went to first with 14.953 followed by Harvick with 14.978. Five time Bristol winner Kurt Busch climbed to third by doing 14.992,  while Joey Logano did 14.938 which ensured him the first position.

A final qualifying round lasted for 5 minutes and featured twelve fastest drivers from the previous session. Kenseth and Carl Edwards took the early lead, and Austin Dillon was black flagged. Matt Kenseth maintained his lead, and Keselowski went to second, so he was followed by Edwards, Harvick, Hamlin, Logano, Busch, Kahne, Menard, McMurray, Ragan and Dillon.
