The stage is set for the ADAC GT Masters season finale at Hockenheim
The 2016 ADAC GT Masters season will end this weekend at Hockenheimring but the championship battle is still widely opened.
After exciting six rounds and 12 races, the 10th season of the series will end on 2 October. The finale will surely be interesting because there are five title contenders in the Drivers’ championship and almost the same number in the Teams’ championship.
Mies and De Phillippi against Keilwitz and Gounon
Christopher Mies and Connor De Phillippi are the leaders in the standings. The Land Motorsport’s duo won only one race but had many strong finishes. They are hugely motivated which is why Mies will miss the last round of the Blancpain GT Series in which he could also win the title.
Only two points behind the drivers of Audi R8 are Daniel Keilwitz and Jules Gounon. The drivers of Callaway Competition’s Corvette won three races this year but also retired from two which could be decisive in the final classification.
There are also other four title contenders, but their chances are relatively small. David Jahn, the driver of Team 75 Bernhard’s Porsche, has 30 points less than the leaders but his performances in the second half of the season when he was teamed up with Kevin Estre, were at the high level, so he can build his optimism on that. The reigning champions Luca Ludwig and Sebastian Asch in Zakspeed’s Mercedes, are 42 points behind and they will have to be very good if they want to defend their title.
Finally, Martin Ragginger and Robert Renauer, the drivers of Herberth Motorsport’s Porsche, are the outsiders in the last battle of the year. They are 48 points behind and it looks almost impossible for them to win the title. However, they must be happy to be with this position considering they won only one race this year and had four retirements.
Tight battle in the Teams’ championship
In the Teams’ Championship, the battle is pretty tight. Land Motorsport leads with 155 points, only two ahead of Callaway Competition. Team Zakspeed on the 3rd has 139 and is trailed by Team 75 Bernhard (120), GRT Grasser Racing Team (110), and Herberth Motorsport (101).
The race 1 of ADAC GT Masters season finale at Hockenheim starts on Saturday 13:15 CET while the start of the race 2 is on Sunday, 13:08 CET.
