Sven Muller close to another title, unlucky Cairoli
The championship leader Sven Muller started from the 6th place, while the front row was occupied by Mathieu Jaminet and Matteo Cairoli. The Italian immediately after the start managed to overtake Jaminet, while Muller moved up to the 3rd so we had the title favorites at the top of the grid.
Cairoli had a solid 2.5s lead but on the lap 8 he was forced to retire due to mechanical failure. Jaminet with a help of fortune retained a lead but Muller was just behind. However, German driver who won Porsche Carrera Cup title had only to be patient as with this set of circumstances, he had one hand on the champion’s trophy.
At the end, Jaminet scored his second win of the year, Muller was very happy with the 2nd position while Robert Lukas completed the podium. Before the final race of the year, Muller has a big advantage to Cairoli in the championship battle and needs to pick only one point on Sunday to clinch the title.
In the Teams’ Championship, Lechner MSG racing secured the title in the penultimate race of the 2016 season.
