Sven Muller close to another title, unlucky Cairoli

  • Porsche Supercup

Sven Muller is one step closer to winning the 2016 Porsche Supercup title. The German finished 2nd in the first race in Austin while his main rival Matteo Cairoli retired from the race.

The championship leader Sven Muller started from the 6th place, while the front row was occupied by Mathieu Jaminet and Matteo Cairoli. The Italian immediately after the start managed to overtake Jaminet, while Muller moved up to the 3rd so we had the title favorites at the top of the grid.

Cairoli had a solid 2.5s lead but on the lap 8 he was forced to retire due to mechanical failure. Jaminet with a help of fortune retained a lead but Muller was just behind. However, German driver who won Porsche Carrera Cup title had only to be patient as with this set of circumstances, he had one hand on the champion’s trophy.
