Renault Sport Trophy: Schiller and Bonifacio winners at Imola

  • Renault Sport Trophy, Imola

Fabian Schiller (Team Marc VDS EG 0,0) and Bruno Bonifacio (Oregon Team) are the winners of two Sunday’s races of the Renault Sport Trophy at Imola circuit. Schiller takes his second consecutive victory in the AM class while Bonifacio wins for the first time this season in the PRO class.

Schiller started the race behind Fredrik Blomstedt and followed him during the opening lap, but on Lap 2 Schiller took a chance to pass the Swede. Two leaders after that had their private race, finishing the 16-lap race with more than 15 seconds advantage over the third-placed Fran Rueda (Team Marc VDS EG 0,0).  Toni Forne (R-ace GP) finished fourth, ahead of Andres Mendez (Oregon Team).

In the AM class standings after two rounds (Aragon and Imola) Schiller has a maximum of 75 points. Rueda follows, with 43 points on his account, Blomstedt is third with 36 points.

In the PRO class race Bruno Bonifacio had a clean race from the first starting position to win his first season’s race. It was a 1-2 victory for Oregon Team because David Fumanelli, who started from the front row, finished the race behind his teammate Bonifacio. Lewis Williamson (Strakka Racing) crossed the finish line as second-placed, but the 10-second penalty because of false start demoted him to the third place.

Despite that, Williamson is the leader in the PRO classification after two rounds. He collects 58 points, eleven more than Kevin Korjus. Fumanelli is third with 31 points.
