Jamie Green wins, Ekstrom out of points, drama is set for tomorrow

Jamie Green in the #53 Audi RS5 DTM wins the penultimate race of the 2017 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season today at Hockenheimring, announcing a maximum drama in tomorrow’s last race which would give us a new champion. The championship leader Mattias Ekstrom didn’t score points today, while Rene Rast finished sixth, so the points classification ahead of tomorows finale is – Ekstrom 172, Green 163, Rast 159 and Rockenfeller 152 points.

Green started third on the grid today, behind two BMWs of Timo Glock and Maxime Martin. Green progressed to P2 on the opening lap and then chased Glock for the next seven laps, taking the lead on lap 8. Green built an advantage of five seconds ahead of Glock until the end of the race. On the last lap, Glock was overtaken by Mike Rockenfeller for the second place on a podium.

The championship leader Mattias Esktrom, who started from P10, was in the points until the lap 34 (of 36), when Bruno Spengler moved him to P11 and took the last point.

For tomorrow’s race, both championship leaders will get grid penalties after qualifications in the morning. Green would be moved by 10 places and Ekstrom by five places.
