DTM: Glock wins at Zandvoort, Rast takes the championship lead

Timo Glock converts pole position into his first victory of the season in the DTM race today at Zandvoort Circuit. For the experienced driver of the #16 BMW M4 DTM it’s the fourth DTM win in a career. Glock leads the 1-2-3 victory for BMW, ahead of Marco Wittmann and Maxime Martin.

Mike Rockenfeller finished in the fourth place as the best Audi driver. He made a progress from P9 at the start to P4 at the end, thanks to early pit stop on the opening lap. Another Audi driver Jamie Green made even bigger progress from P15 on the starting grid to P5 at the end.

On the other side, one of two main championship contenders Rene Rast started from P5 and finished ninth. He earned two points, what was enough to take the championship lead after eleven races ahead of Mattias Ekstrom, who had a race from nightmare.After an early pit stop on lap 4, Ekstrom went off the road and then spun on the track. Later he overtook few drivers but retired eventually three laps before the end.

Ahead of tomorrow’s Race 2, Rene Rast has 114 points, one more than Mattias Ekstrom. Lucas Auer is third with 99 points, ahead of Timo Glock (98) and Jamie Green (97).
