Formula 3 Europe: Sunday's victories at Monza for Eriksson and Ilott
Joel Eriksson (Motopark) and Callum Ilott (Prema Powerteam) are the winners of two Sunday’s races of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship at Autodromo Nazionale di Monza. For each driver it was the second win of the season after they won one race each at Silverstone.
Eriksson started from pole in both races but managed to win only in the first race, ahead of Lando Norris (Carlin) and Mick Schumacher (Prema Powerteam). In the second race of a day, Ilott took the lead immediatelly at the start and remained in front until the checkered flag, ahead of Lando Norris and Max Gunther. For Mick Schumacher, the son of Formula 1 record world champion Michael Schumacher, third place in race 2 was the maiden overall podium in the Formula 3.
After three races at the iconic 5.793 kilometres long Monza Grand Prix circuit and six races in total, Eriksson leads the 2017 championship standings with 104 points, just one point ahead of Lando Norris. Norris is also the best rookie. Third in the overall standings is Callum Ilott with 76 points, four more then Max Gunther.
The third Formula 3 European Championship weekend is scheduled for May 20-21 at Pau street circuit.
