Formula 3 at Nürburgring: Maiden win for Hughes, ninth win for Norris
Jake Hughes (Hitech) and Lando Norris (Carlin) are the winners of two Sunday’s races of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship weekend at Nürburgring. For Jake Hughes, it’s his maiden victory in his rookie Formula 3 season. After Saturday’s win in race 1, Lando Norris captured his ninth win of the season in third race at Nürburgring’s sprint circuit.
The eighth round of the season took part at the 3.629 kilometres long Nürburgring sprint circuit. Jake Hughes started from pole position and pulled a gap on the opening lap. He stayed in front until the checkered flag, scoring his first win and the first win for Hitech team ahead of Lando Norris and Callum Ilott (Prema Powerteam), making a clean sweep for British drivers.
Honda protege Tadasuke Makino (Hitech) finished fourth, what is the best Formula 3 result to date for him. His team-mate Ralf Aron finished fifth. Ferdinand Habsburg (Carlin), Joey Mawson (Van Amersfoort Racing), Harrison Newey (Van Amersfoort Racing), Joel Eriksson (Motopark) and Jehan Daruvala (Carlin) rounded out the top ten.
In the third race of the weekend, Callum Ilott started from pole but he didn’t manage to convert it to his fifth win. He even missed to reach a podium, finishing fourth behind Lando Norris, Jake Hughes and Ralf Aron.
