A week after Spa, G-Drive Racing conquered Monza
Jean-Eric Vergne, Romain Rusinov and Andrea Pizzitola won the 4 Hours of Monza, the second round of the 2018 European Le Mans Series, scoring one more great victory for G-Drive Racing just a week after they won the season-opening FIA WEC race at Spa-Francorchamps.
The trio in the #26 Oreca 07 defeated the nearest rivals from TDS Racing by half a minute. The drivers of TDS #33 Oreca were Loic Duval, Francois Perrodo and Matthieu Vaxiviere. The #28 IDEC Sport Oreca crew (Memo Rojas, Paul Lafargue, Paul-Loup Chatin) completed the podium at Monza.
The LMP3 class victory went to the #11 Eurointernational Ligier of Giorgio Mondini and Kay Van Berlo. The reigning LMP3 champions Sean Rayhall and John Falb were on their way to victory but, ten minutes before the end, Falb had a collision with one LMP2 cars and suffered a puncture, losing a valuable time to finish fifth.
The LMGTE class went to the #55 Spirit of Race Ferrari 488 GTE of Duncan Cameron, Aaron Scott and Matt Griffin. They defeated the #77 Proton Competitions’s Porsche by more than a minute. The #80 Ebimotors Porsche finished third.
For many ELMS teams this was the last preparation before 24 Hours of Le Mans, scheduled for June 16-17 at Circuit de la Sarthe. The next ELMS race is the 4 Hours of Red Bull Ring on July 22.
