2018 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season preview and entry list
The 2018 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season, the 26th edition of the world’s most popular one-make series, will start this weekend at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya as a part of the F1 Spanish Grand Prix support programme.
Compared to the previous season, the Porsche Supercup calendar features more events (nine instead of eight) but fewer races (ten instead of eleven). Only the season’s finale at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico is a double-header event, all other venues will host one race each. Between Barcelona and Mexico City, Porsche Supercup will visit Monte-Carlo, Red Bull Ring, Silverstone, Hockenheimring, Hungaroring, Spa-Francorchamps and Monza.
The twenty-eight car grid for the full season
The twenty-eight car grid has been announced to contest full season, with additional entries during the season. The reigning Supercup champion Michael Ammermüller will try to defend the title in his seventh consecutive season in the series. As in the previous six seasons, he will drive for Lechner Racing. This time, he will have the number 1 on his car.
In total, the Austrian team will have seven cars on the grid in 2018, entering the competition under the banners of BWT Lechner Racing, MOMO Megatron Lechner and Lechner Racing Middle East. Ammermüller’s teammate in the BWT Lechner Racing would be Porsche Junior Thomas Preining in the #2 car.
Momo Megatron Lechner will field two cars for Dylan Pereira and Josh Webster. The Lechner Racing Middle East will run cars for Al Faisal Al Zubair and Roar Lindland while the third car would be driven by different drivers. Philip Hamprecht will be on the grid in Barcelona.
