ADAC GT Masters: BMW's Klingmann and Baumann wins first race at Spa
Sebastian Asch defended pole position in front of aggressive Martin Ragginger in Porsche 911 GT3 R who overtook Jens Klingmann in BMW Z4 GT3. After just 90 seconds safety car went on the track after rookie Stefan Wackerbauer in Audi R8 LMS Ultra crashed into the wall and C.Abt Racing team’s car #1 had to withdraw from the race.
First three cars were very close in the opening laps, but after 11 minutes Klingmann took the lead after nice maneuver in the chicane. Schubert’s BMW driver had a clear road after that and quickly made a difference of 1.5 seconds in front of Asch and Ragginger who was soon penalized with five seconds. Luca Stolz in Bentley Continental GT3 was fourth after 15 minutes while Claudia Hurtgen in BMW was fifth.
Standings at the top of the grid remained unchanged when pit window was opened, but after drivers change there was few upheavals. Dominik Baumann kept BMW Sports Trophy Team Schubert’s #80 at the top, Zakspeed’s #21 with Luca Ludwig stayed on second while up to third moved Jeroen Bleekemolen in Bentley. Uwe Alzen in BMW was fourth and Bentley’s Klaus Bachler fifth.
