Arthur Pic is the fastest in Monaco Free Practice
After an unarguably interesting F1 First Practice, the GP2 crews rolled onto the streets of Monaco at noon with Mitch Evans’ car stalling upon exiting the pits. The unlucky turn of events caused a red flag, but the race resumed soon. Pierre Gasly took the early lead with 1.33.542, followed by Alex Lynn who had a great weekend testing for Williams this weekend. Rene Binder climbed to first, but was overtaken by Alexander Rossi. A lot of drivers were juggling between the top five positions, and Rossi lost his first place to Julian Leal who did 1:23.614. Rossi reclaimed the first with 1:22.624 and kept it until Leal returned to first with 1:22.611. Daniel De Jong stopped prematurely due to a mechanical issue.
Richie Stanaway set the pace by lapping the track in 1:22.611 and Stoffel Vandoorne was the first to follow with 1:21.706. Stanaway improved his time to 1:22.503 and with 20 minutes to go, he was followed by Vandoorne, Raffaele Marciello, Jordan King and Rio Haryanto in top five. Leal jumped to second by doing 1:21.573. Raffaele Marciello did 1:21.034 and got to the lead, but Pierre Gasly overtook him with 1:20.809, but was himself overtaken by Arthur Pic with 1:20.556.
At the end of the session, Pic was the fastest with 1:20.556, and was followed by Rossi, Gasly, Vandoorne and Canamasas in top five. The full list is the following:
