2015 DTM: Rockenfeller tops FP1 at Zandvoort

  • Mike Rockenfeller - Audi

Mike Rockenfeller was the fastest in the first free practice of the DTM weekend at Zandvoort circuit. The Audi driver set the fastest lap during the 45 minutes session in the Netherlands – 1:32.009.

The former champion was chased by five BMWs. Antonio Felix da Costa was just 0.008 seconds behind “Rocki”, while the third best result was achieved by Augusto Farfus – 1:32.112. Rockenfeller obviously feels at home at Zandvoort as he won his career’s first race on this circuit as well as pole position last year.

Marco Wittmann

Marco Wittmann, Tom Blomqvist and Maxime Martin ranked in positions four to six, Audi’s pair Timo Scheider and Mattias Ekstrom were seventh and sixth respectively and Gary Paffett on ninth position was the best placed Mercedes driver. Edoardo Mortara in Audi completes the top 10 list.

It was a bit of a disappointing session for championship leader Jamie Green who finished 16th, just as for the Norisring winners Pascal Wehrlein and Robert Wickens, as they were 19th and 23rd respectively. After a brilliant weekend at Norisring, for Mercedes this was a really bad start of the round as seven their cars were in the last eight.

The second free practice in Zandvoort is scheduled for Saturday at 11.30 CET, qualifying starts at 14.55 and the start of the 40 minutes races at 18.00.
