Ekstrom fastest in preseason tests at Hockenheim
DTM teams finished their second official pre-season tests at Hockenheim. During four days, 15 drivers of Audi, BMW and Mercedes teams had an opportunity to test their cars in the various conditions.
BMW dominant at the start
During the first day, former champion Augusto Farfus set the fastest lap time driving a BMW M4 DTM – 1:33.326. Another BMW driver Maxime Martin had a second best result (1:33.652) and was followed by Nico Muller, Miguel Molina and Timo Scheider in the seats of Audis.
BMW was fastest again during the second day of testing, but this time, Tom Blomqvist was the star of the day setting the lap time 1:33.214. Audi drivers and former champions Mattias Ekstrom and Mike Rockenfeller were second and third, only 0.086s and 0.116s behind the British driver.
Audi strikes back
On the third day, Audi took the reigns in wet conditions. Ekstrom was the first who broke 1:33 limit, driving a lap at Hockenheim in 1:32.964. Mercedes finally had a driver in the top of the standings after Daniel Juncadella set second best lap time (1:33.141) leaving Martin Tomczyk in BMW on third (1:33.259).
On Friday, the final day of the pre-season testing, Mike Rockenfeller behind the wheel of Audi RS5, was the fastest on the track. The German driver and another former DTM champion had a result of 1:33.197 leaving Audi drivers Edoardo Mortara (1:33.222) and Mattias Ekstrom (1:33.401) behind.
New DTM season with nine rounds and 18 races starts on 7th of May at Hockenheim.
