F3 Euro in Spielberg: No racing and half points because of bad weather

Heavy rainfall and too much water on the track caused a lot of problem today at the Red Bull Ring in all the series. After incidents in Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland, a massive crash in Audi Sport TT Cup and a red-flagged warm up session in DTM, drivers of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship didn’t even get a chance to race.

The start of the race was postponed from 11.45 to 13.25, but the weather didn’t get better. After that, the drivers were cruising a few laps behind the Safety Car till the red flag was shown again. After 25 minutes of waiting and sitting in the cars they made one more lap with the Safety Car in the front and finally went to the pits.

The organisers decided that the drivers will get half of the points, according to the qualifying times and the starting grid. So, Antonio Giovinazzi (Jagonya Ayam with Carlin) became the winner and confirmed his championship lead. Felix Rosenqvist (Prema Powerteam) was second on the grid, second on the podium and remains second in the championship standings. Third on the podium was Sergio Sette Camara (Motopark).

The next races are scheduled for 4-6 September in Portimao (Portugal), as a part of Blancpain Sprint Series weekend.
