F3 Euro: Rosenqvist wins at Algarve and took the championship lead
Felix Rosenqvist (Prema Powerteam) took the dominant win in Race 2 of FIA Formula 3 European Championship at Autodromo Internacional do Algarve and also jumped to the first place in the championship standings over previous leader Antonio Giovinazzi (Jagonya Ayam with Carlin). Giovinazzi finished 8th in the race and lost the championship lead because of second low-points result at Algarve, after 9th place in first race earlier today.
Rosenqvist started from pole and his leading position wasn’t under threat even after two restart in Lap 5 and Lap 14, after Safety Car left the track. Jake Dennis (Prema Powerteam), winner of the first race at Algarve, made a decisive move at the start and jumped from 4th to 2nd. He remained on that position until the end of the race, ahead best placed rookie Lance Stroll (Prema Powerteam).
Prema Powerteam’s 1-2-3 domination could be even better but Nick Cassidy crashed on Turn 1 of Lap 12, when he was on fourth position. That promoted Gustavo Menezes (Jagonya Ayam with Carlin) to fourth, ahead George Russell (Carlin), Pietro Fittipaldi (Fortec Motorsport) and Charles Leclerc (Van Amersfoort Racing). Antonio Giovinazzi started very bad from 5th position and finished, as we said, as eighth. Two more point finishers are kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport drivers Mikkel Jensen and Santino Ferrucci.
