Formula 3 Euro: Giovinazzi wins third race at Norisring
Antonio Giovinazzi (Jagonya Ayam with Carlin) is the third winner this weekend in Formula 3 European Championship races at Norisring. After Charles Leclerc (Van Amersfoort Racing) and Maximilian Gunther (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport) had won yesterday Italian was the fastest driver in Race 3 and with new 25 points he jumped to second place in championship standings. Remaining in the lead are Leclerc.
Giovinazzi wins ahead George Russell (Carlin) and Alexander Albon (Signeture), who started from the first row on the grid. Giovinazzi started from third and immediately jumped in the lead and stayed there till the end. Behind his back there was some fighting for podium positions at the start. Albon dropped to fifth at the start but than again moved to third.
Jake Dennis (Prema Powerteam) started from fourth and jumped to second, but after that struggled with his car and was dropping one by one place and at the end was out of points. Championship leader Charles Leclerc continued his consistent racing and again picked up lots of points with fourth place. Mikkel Jensen (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport) finished fifth in front of team-mate Santino Ferrucci. Callum Illot (Carlin) made his best result with seventh place. Three more drivers in Top 10 were Dorian Boccolacci (Signature), Alessio Lorandi (Van Amersfoort) and Brandon Maisano (Prema Powerteam).
Race was interrupted three times with Safety car interventions. Earliest brake was in Lap 1 because Matt Solomon stalled on starting line and Sam MacLeod hit him from the back. In Lap 6 Gustavo Menezes, Maximilian Gunther and Sergio Sette Camara crashed and finally in Lap 24 Safety car exited after Nabil Jeffri and Matthew Rao crashed.
Next races are scheduled for 11 and 12 July at Zandvoort.
