Formula 3 Macau GP - Rosenqvist wins Qualification Race after Giovinazzi's penalty

Formula 3 European champion Felix Rosenqvist is the winner of Qualification Race of FIA Formula 3 Intercontinental Cup, commonly known as Macau GP, which was held today at famous Macau Guia street circuit. Rosenqvist, who competed in Mercedes-powered Dallara runned by Theodore Racing and Prema Powerteam, finished the race behind Antonio Giovinazzi (Carlin with LC8.com), but Italian received 20 seconds penalty and lost the victory.

Giovinazzi was penalized because of opening lap clash with Daniel Juncadella. Rosenqvist started from pole and had a clean run after green lights. Dani Juncadella, who started from second, didn’t start so well and Giovinazzi attacked him. They made a contact in San Francisco bend and Juncadella spun. Than he crashed into the barriers and some other cars collected him. Safety car was called out, with Rosenqvist in the leand and Giovinazzi behind him.

At the restart Giovinazzi passed over Rosenqvist and grab the lead. Charles Leclerc (Van Amersfoort Racing) was third. Behind the leading trio Alexander Sims (Double R Racing) progressed from 13th to fourth place, ahead Sam MacLeod (Team West-Tec F3) and Markus Pommer (Motopark). Post-race 20-second time penalty demoted Giovinazzi to 10th, but Carlin team still hoping that the penalty will be reconsidered.
