GP2: Stoffel Vandoorne the fastest in Hungaroring practice

After Sergio Perez crashed and Hamilton was the fastest in Formula 1 free practice at Hungaroring, Stoffel Vandoorne was the quickest GP2 driver around the track. The session started at noon and recovering driver Zoël Amberg took the early lead, but soon the drivers started increasing the pace and Pierre Gasly went to the top by doing 1:30.179. Vandoorne set the time of 1:29.729, but Alex Lynn did 1:29.549, taking the lead while Rio Haryanto went up to second. Vandoorne soon reclaimed the lead with 1:28.969.

With around 28 minutes to go, the cars went to the pits for data gathering and additional setups. Though many drivers improved their times and positions, nothing significant happened apart from Sergio Canamasas’ runoff and debris falling out of Julian Leal’s car.

Vandoorne didn’t improve his time and stayed on top with 1:28.969, followed by Rio Haryanto, Alex Lynn, Arthur Pic and Pierre Gasly in top five. The rest of the session times is the following:
