Kevin Magnussen won’t be part of the McLaren Honda Formula 1 team after this season.

The Formula 1 team has decided not to retain the services of the 23-year-old Dane who was their regular driver in 2014, but lost his seat after recruiting Fernando Alonso for 2015 when he was used as a substitution.

With the newly-crowned GP2 champion Stoffel Vandoorne also in their books, McLaren couldn’t afford to retain Magnussen’s services and Chief Executive Officer Ron Dennis said that the team wishes all the best to Kevin.

“In 2014, he raced very well alongside Jenson, who is hugely experienced and quickly became a world champion. Kevin’s Grand Prix debut in Melbourne last year was rewarded with a podium that day that he, and we, can be justifiably be proud of. Kevin has always done a very impressive and professional job for McLaren in the five years since he joined our Young Driver Programme,” explained Dennis.

But, Magnussen can still stay in Formula 1, depending on whether his sponsor is considering staying in the sports. Anyway, Magnussen could be a very interesting target for the teams like Lotus or newcomer Haas, but also for Manor team which expects big progress in 2016.
