Having that in mind, the official test days of VLN are always a interesting event. This year, the testing were held on 13th and 14th of March, two weeks before the first race of the season (28th of March). The testing was scheduled for the first days of spring but the temperatures was close to freezing. However, close to 70 cars showed up for event and among those, few notable drivers and one world premiere. The main focus was on the cars in GT3 class which are the fastest. There were some of the FIA WTCC racers and GT drivers including Mathias Lauda, Richie Stanaway, Jonny Adam, Stefan Mücke and Marino Franchitti. The teams and the drivers were careful since the wether was cold and the test sessions went accident free except for white Porsche 991 GT3 which almost hit the fence but the driver did manage to control the car.
The star of the test session was new Audi R8 LMS Ultra a second generation of highly successful Audi’s race car which just debuted in Geneve and found its way on Nürburgring for first outing. The Audi Team clocked over 400 kilometers of trouble free testing during the Friday and Saturday. That was world premiere and everybody is eager to find out how the new car will handle competition in 2015 season. The other interesting car was legendary Maserati MC12 in FIA GT1 World Championship spec. It was brought by Vita4One team for testing. However, it is almost certain that Maserati MC12 will not participate in VLN series but it was interesting to see such fantastic car on Nürburgring again. However, the most anticipated car was Scuderia Glickenhaus SCG003C but it was not present but it should be on the grid for the 24 Hours of Nürburgring on 28th of March, the first race in VLN 2015 calendar.
