Porsche Carrera Cup Germany Zandvoort - qualifying & race 1
The sunny day in Zandvoort for Porsche Carrera Cup Germany race weekend. After the interesting practice session with very good results achieved by Matteo Cairoli and Daniel Cammish on second and third place, today’s qualifying had expected results with Phillip Eng on pole position with Michael Ammermuller on second and Alex Riberas on third. On the 10th and 11th place were Daniel Cammish and Ben Barker in British duel.
The first race of the weekend started in 14:10 CET and lasted for 25 minutes (14 laps). The start went without any incidents with first three drivers running away from the rest of the grid. However, in lap 3 there was safety car on the track after Daniel Cammish tried to pass Nicki Thiim, hitting Thiim’s car with his right front wheel causing suspension damage and off track excursion. The race was over for him very early which is pity since he is one of interesting drivers with great ambition.
After the safety car, race continued and top three drivers (Eng,Ammermuller and Riberas) again moved from the rest of the grid. Eng was fastest and soon made around 2 seconds advantage over Ammermuller who had very ambitious Riberas behind him. Riberas tried to pass Ammermuller but there just wasn’t enough time and Ammermuller was holding on to his position. When the checkered flag was shown, Eng was first, Ammermuller second and Riberas third. Stay tuned for tomorrow’s coverage of race 2 of Porsche Carrera Cup Germany Zandvoort weekend.
