Porsche Supercup Austria - qualifying

Second day of Porsche Supecup event in Red Bull Ring, Spielberg, Austria is reserved for qualifying session and all of 28 drivers was ready for their attempt on top lap times. Red Bull Ring is modern track with interesting lay out with four long straights and some sharp turns. The driver must be ready to drive full speed and to brake hard in order to achieve best time. It is not very long but with 4.326 km is not short either. Because the track is located in mountain area the colder weather is often an issue and today the heavy rain starter falling just before qualifications.

Because of the rain, the lap times were far slower than yesterday during the practice session. The best time was achieved by Connor de Phillipi who started with new car (just like Matteo Cairoli). He secured pole position for tomorrows race with 1:48.310 time only few hundreds of a second faster than Phillip Eng who was second and Michael Ammermuller on third. As always on Porsche Supercup qualifying and racing, the times are very close and this time eight drivers had times in one second which shows a fierce driving and that cars are identical. Matteo Cairoli who was second yesterday had 13th time and Supercup rookie and celebrity driver’s son, Pedro Piquet was 14th. The full qualifying results HERE and we will hope that weather will be better tomorrow for another interesting Supercup race so stay tuned.
