Porsche Supercup Hungaroring - practice
The fifth round of this year’s Porsche Supercup championship is going to be held on the well-known Grand Prix track in Budapest, Hungary. The 4,38 km long circuit is one of the most difficult tracks in the racing calendar with very few places for safe overtaking.
The qualifying position as well as team tactics are very important since Hungaroring is very hot at this time of the year and is very harsh on tyres. This year, the situation is no different with the temperature already very high and even sometimes crossing the 40 degrees mark.
However, the race weekend will be held as planned and the first outing is a free practice session today afternoon on a very hot Budapest track. After almost an hour of hot lapping in Hungaroring, Austrian Ace Phillip Eng had the fastest time of 1:49.647 minutes. As always in Supercup events, the times clocked in are very very close and this time eight drivers had times with a 1-second range of Eng’s timings. The second fastest was Sven Muller and third was Michael Ammermuller. For full results, click HERE:
An interesting addition to the driver’s pole was the famous Johnny Herbert, the ex Formula One driver-turned-TV-personality is in Hungaroring as part of TV coverage of Supercup races. He was given the chance of participating in free practice session and this was his first time in the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car. He was given instructions by Connor de Phillipi who knows the Hungaroring track well.
