Prost wins Formula E race in Miami

The fifth Formula E race in the season was held in Miami. It was interesting but the whole concept of the series is much more interesting than pure racing and has a much deeper meaning.

There were a lot of sons of famous fathers. On the track were Bruno Senna, Nicolas Prost, Nelson Piquet Junior, as well as some former Formula 1 drivers Jarno Trulli, who runs his own team, Sebastian Buemi, Nick Heidfeld etc. Of course, daddy Prost was there as manager of the Renault team and biggest supporter of his son. Another “father-son” combination was between 22 years old Daniel Abt, who drives for the team of his dad Cristian, Audi-Abt.

The star out of the track was Richard Branson which presence is more associated with the future vision of the series.

Qualifications in Formula E are very interesting. In the same time only five cars could be on the track, so there’s no big mass and drivers could feel more comfortable. All teams have two drivers and a total of four cars during the race. After approximately half an hour, drivers are changing the cars and have a maximum of 63 seconds to return to the race. It’s not an easy task because only starting of the new cars taking about 20 seconds.

During qualifying Andretti team and French driver Jean-Eric Vergne took pole position, Prost was second, Piquet was third, fourth place took Abt, while series overall leader Lucas De Grassi was sixth.

Daniel Abt had a lot of pressure to get good result, not only for the cause of the team but to prove that he is there just because of his father, just as Prost Jr.

During the race, the order remained almost unchanged, just before a cars change. After changes. Audi Abt came in first and third place, with a Daniel took first and De Grassi third place, with Prost between them. Other teams opted to change the cars a little bit later which probably was better decision, but not for Piquet who has decided to take one more lap which resulted with a loss of energy and he lost much time in the box.

Abt was holding a leading position three rounds before the end, with local crowd favorite Scott Speed very quickly reached the fourth place arriving from the back of the grid. Abt team increasingly ran near the reserve of energy. Speed ​​soon surpassed De Grassi and two laps before the end who also overtook Abt. Shortly after, Speed , who had most energy in the batteries attacked Prost. In the final lap, Prost spun, hit the rear of the rounds in concrete fence, but still continued to drive and with damaged car took first place. Speed ​​finished second and third was Abt.

On the podium was interesting – first career victory for Prost and the first podium for Abt. They were both very emotional and it was obvious that they pulled a great weight off their back, as they have shown that they are here not only because of their fathers.

Prost took over first place in the overall standings while Renault solidified their advantage in the Constructors’ championship.
