V8 Supercars - SKYCITY Triple Crown Darwin day 1
After over a month pause between the Australian V8 Supercars championship races the series is back with the sprint event held in Darwin. During the break, the teams had enough time to analyze every aspect and to improve their performance. However, lots of V8 Supercars drivers was involved in other racing series but now they are back in “Down Under” for some fierce sprint racing.
The Hidden Valley track in Darwin, Australia is the venue for this weekend’s event. It is short, sprint type circuit (2.9 kilometers long) with long straight for top speed and the second half of the lap requires a car that changes direction very well. The warm weather will be hard on tires.
The day 1 (Friday) consisted of two practice sessions each lasting 60 minutes. The third practice session will be held tomorrow with qualifying sessions and the races will be held on Sunday as usual. The fastest driver in both of practice session was David Reynolds in green Ford Falcon driving for The Bottle-O Racing Team. He even managed to break the lap record in second practice session with blistering fast 1min06.7307 time. After the record lap, he said that team has find perfect tire balance and that helped him have better stability and traction in order to achieve such a good time. On the other hand, Ford Falcons has been known for being better on sprint tracks than Holdens so that helped also. All other drivers were slower and we will see what they will to tomorrow on qualifying session so stay tuned for more coverage from the world of V8 Supercars.
