V8 Supercars Townsville 400 Sprint – day 2
The day 2 of the Supercars Townsville event started with another (fourth) practice session at Saturday morning. Since the Townsville is tight street circuit the drivers needed some more time practicing because the potential mistakes could be very bad. Interestingly, the Erebus Mercedes duo of Will Davison and Ash Walsh was fastest on fourth practice session showing once again that Mercedes has the speed and skilled drivers.
However, when qualification session came, Ford Pepsi Max team took the front row for afternoon’s race with Chaz Moster on pole and Mark Winterbottom on second position. This ensured that the front of the grid will be Ford dominated. The third was David Raynolds in another Ford with time very close to the front two drivers.
Even with the tight street circuit the start of the afternoon’s race was text book example of clean racing with all the cars passed trough the tight corners without any incident. The Ford duo took the lead from early on and kept it trough out the race for hour and a half and 70 laps of great racing. Mark Winterbottom was first but Chaz Mostert finished eight after losing few places. The second was David Raynolds who raced very good and kept with the leading Winterbottom all trough the race.
