TCR International: Vernay leads Leopard Racing's 1-2 at Singapore

  • Jean-Karl Vernay TCR Singapore

The Frenchman Jean-Karl Vernay (Leopard Racing) scored his third win in the 2016 TCR International Series season today at Singapore’s Marina Bay Street Circuit. It was a double victory for Leopard Racing’s Volkswagen Golfs, as Vernay’s teammate and defending champion Stefano Comini finished second. Pepe Oriola (Team Craft-Bamboo Lukoil) completed the podium in the 10-lap night race at exotic street circuit.

The starting grid was reshuffled after the qualifying session because of many penalties caused by track-limit infringements. Vernay was fastest qualifier and he wasn’t punished, so he started from pole and remained in the lead until the checkered flag. Mato Homola, who started from the front row, lost two positions on the start, behind Comini and Oriola. After few position changes in the opening lap, the race was quite boring, because the Top 10 classification was almost unchanged until the end, without overtakings and fights. The only one who dropped from the points was Petr Fulin, whose Alfa Romeo Giulietta suffered some technical problems.

Behind the trio on the podium, the other points scorers are Homola, James Nash, Sergey Afanasyev, Dusan Borkovic, Kevin Gleason, Attila Tassi and Gianni Morbidelli.

After 17 races, the three leading drivers are divided by just two points: Comini 215, Nash 214 and Oriola 213. One more race is scheduled for tomorrow.
