Super Formula: Sekiguchi wins at Autopolis, Yamamoto leads the championship

Yuhi Sekiguchi (Itochu Enex Team Impul) has won Super Formula race at Autopolis, the second round of the 2019 Japanese Super Formula Championship. It’s his sixth SF victory in a career.

The 31-year-old driver of the #19 Dallara SF19-Toyota, who won a race after starting 16th on the grid, shared a podium with defending champion Naoki Yamamoto (DoCoMo Team Dandelion Racing, Honda) and Kazuya Oshima (UOMO Sunoco Team LeMans, Toyota).

Yamamoto finished as a runner-up for the second time in as many races, taking the lead in the championship with 16 points on his account. Nick Cassidy (Vantelin Team Tom’s), the winner of the season-opening race at Suzuka, finished eighth at Autopolis and he is now second in the championship with 11 points.

The other point scorers today are Tadasuke Makino (4th, TCS Nakajima Racing, Honda), Nirei Fukuzumi (5th, DoCoMo Dandelion, Honda), Alex Palou (6th, TCS Nakajima Racing, Honda) and Kenta Yamashita (7th, Kondo Racing, Toyota).

The next race is scheduled for June 22-23 at Sportsland Sugo.
