The Nurburgring track is notorious and famous in many ways and it one of the most feared and favorite track among the drivers. For Porsche cup racers, it has always been a special place so racing here in Porsche 991 GT3 Cup is epic. On today’s free practice session which was held in late afternoon, conditions were less then perfect with lower temperature and wet weather. The rain was of and on, leaving drivers with very important question regarding the tires and during the practice everybody has changed tires at least once. However, that didn’t stopped the experienced Christian Engelhart to achieve best time of 8:44.455. He started on dry tires but after a two laps changed to wet tires because of conditions. Interestingly, first three drivers (Engelhart, Michael Ammermuller and Phillip Eng) all had very similar times just a few hundreds of a second from each other.

Alex Riberas was fourth which is very good and on fifth place was Nikki Thiim. It’s good ti see Thiim on higher positions since he wasn’t so successful in previous events. The perspective Connor de Phillipi, Jeffrey Schmidt and Ben Baker were in the mid field, possibly affected by the conditions of the track. However, the real battle for pole position is tomorrow and we hope that the weather will be better only to give the drivers less problems and more chance of great driving. The qualifying session is tomorrow evening and starts at 19:40 CET and last for an hour, so stay tuned for more coverage.
